The Isotta Fraschini Type 8 is one of the largest Italian cars ever manufactured and was produced by the company established by Cesare Isotta and Oreste Fraschini in 1900.
As Isotta Fraschini's first design after World War I, it was in keeping with the trend of large scale deluxe vehicles made popular by the Americans. As such, the Type 8 came into direct competition with Hispano-Suiza, Rolls-Royce and bid American makes - all renowned for size, elegance and finish. The car has a massive in-line eight cylinder engine with vertical overhead valves operated by pushrods and short rockers, with the timing gear being driven by chain.
This engine was the world's first production straight eight.
